Meet Norman, the first official mascot of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy. He was born in Caen, France, on November 26, 2011 (day 1,000 before the Games are to begin). His dam is a Selle Francais champion show jumper and his sire being a Quarter Horse reiner from the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky.

He’s actually the “captain” of the Games mascots, as there are four:  Norman; Pom’Pommette – the cheerleader; Hoofy – the party horse, and Galopy – the athlete. Norman is the leader of the World Equestrian Games supporters and his passion is cheering on the competitors and giving them his full support and motivation. He is a true champion, always in a good mood and wearing a big smile. Here is a link to Norman’s bio on the Games web site:  http://www.normandy2014.com/fan-zone/mascots.

As part of his official duties Norman has been traveling around the globe to promote the Games. He did cross training in Lexington, Kentucky, last fall and has posed for photos in all of the countries where Games title sponsor Alltech has offices. He is also making appearances throughout France in 2013 and 2014. Here are some links to Norman’s other road trips in 2013:

Recently Norman took a road trip to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Canada. His friends Shelley Higgins, Dee Kochensparger and Kim MacMillan helped set up his adventure to visit with Canadian equestrians and exhibitors of livestock at this prestigious event, which is the premier showcase for Canadian agriculture. It is one of the largest indoor agricultural exhibitions in the world and includes an international horse show with show jumping, dressage, indoor eventing, draft horse hitches, fine harness and antique coaching classes and breed shows for Canadian Sport Horses, Thoroughbreds and ponies.

“The Royal” began on November 22, 1922, with 17,000 agricultural entries and over 150,000 visitors. The Fair was allowed the use of the designation “Royal” in the title by His Majesty, King George V in the 1920s. Today The Royal boasts more than one million square feet of displays and competition facilities and draws in some 300,000 visitors annually. Thousands of entries are received each year from Canadian and international breeders, growers and exhibitors, including over 5,000 large and small animals. For more information about The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair visit www.royalfair.org.
