Get ready to pack your car or set your TIVO to record the 2013 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI4*  It begins in less than a week,  with the first horse inspection at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. Dressage follows on Thursday and Friday, April 25 and 26, then the all-important cross-country on Saturday, April 27.  The exciting finish with stadium jumping and awards will be held Sunday, April 28.

NBC Sports will again be taping highlights from this year’s Rolex event to be televised a week or so later. Check your local listings for broadcast times. As soon as we receive notice of the NBC national broadcast time we will let you know, but be aware that the local affiliates may deviate from the national schedule. If you want to make sure your local NBC station carries the event, contact them ahead of time to register your vote for Rolex coverage!

TheSportHorse.com will once again be well represented at the 2013 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day by the nine-person team from MacMillan Photography & Media Services. Their Associate Photojournalist Sarah Miller of Indianapolis, and college intern Hannah Wormgoor of Taylor University, will be taking photos, blogging and providing woman-on-the-street video interviews.  Watch for a “Shop Rolex ‘til You Drop” video feature from Kristin Crowe and Jen Emig, the “professional shoppers” of the MacMillan Photography group. Other highlights by various MacMillan Photography journalists will include a course walk, interviews with volunteers, coaches and riders, and a “what’s for dinner” in the food court feature (i.e. what’s the latest deep-fried food craze!).

For the third year in a row, the Kentucky Reining Cup and the World Championship Freestyle Reining competitions will take place on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, respectively, in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Tickets for this event are sold separately. The 2013 Kentucky Reining Cup CRI3 entry list includes competitors from several countries and will also feature celebrity riders such as country singer Lyle Lovett and international eventers Bobby Costello, Sinead Halpin, David O’Connor and Allison Springer. The freestyle competition is fun to watch even if you don’t know anything about reining. For more information go to http://www.kentuckyreining.com/index.php.

If you decide you want to go to Rolex to experience the action firsthand, you may still purchase daily general admission tickets. For more information go to www.rk3de.org.
