press release

Eitan Beth-Halachmy of Cowboy Dressage announces his new Cowboy Dressage Challenge Tests. These tests were developed by Eitan as gymnastic exercises that are helpful to the western horse and the rider.

The Challenge tests offer a place for the western rider to familiarize themselves with the court and maneuvers. It welcomes all western disciplines and all disciplines will benefit from it.

The Challenge Tests are ridden in the 20 X 40 meter Cowboy Dressage Court. These tests will help define the ten meter and twenty meter circles as they are well laid out with ground polls. There is octagon box at 8 (X) and back up cones in the corners. There are walk and jog over polls throughout the court. This is not a trail class and you are not judged on the weather you hit or nick the ground polls.  You are judged on the movement and forward motion over the polls. It is the goal of these tests to move the weight back over the hindquarters of the horse and to place his feet where the rider wishes them to be. The placing of the ground polls also helps the rider to learn the court and to ride the correct bend for each size circle and to develop straightness. You will find many transitions, turns on the forehand and hindquarters that help create a rounder more engaged horse.

There are 4 walk/jog tests and one walk, jog, lope test. These test are all about horsemanship, balance and correctness for the western horse and rider. Each test asks for a higher level of skill and developing partnership.

The new Challenge Tests are governed by the same rules and scoring system as the original 9 Cowboy Dressage Tests. All the information, tests, diagrams, rules and score sheets are now available at www.cowboydressage.com/competition.html
