Press Release

Del Mar, CA (February 2013) The 68th Del Mar National Horse Show runs Thursday, April 18 through Sunday, May 5 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Arena.  Special preparations are underway during Dressage Week, April 25 through 29, for the official retirement of Akiko Yamazaki’s, Ravel.  The magnificent gelding was named the USEF 2009 Horse of Year, World Cup Championship, and Olympic partner to Steffen Peters of San Diego, California. The retirement ceremony will take place during the Evening of Musical Freestyles on Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m.

Ravel is a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood who richly deserves to retire in style after a stellar career. Ravel was inducted into the US Dressage Federation Hall of Fame in 2012 following his participation as part of TEAM USA in two Olympics; a World Cup victory;  Bronze Medals in the World Equestrian Games and more than 40 Grand Prix victories during his career.

“To say we are honored and excited to host this special ceremony is a huge understatement,” stated Kenny Baker, Horse Show Manager.  “Steffen Peters and Ravel have been perennial favorites here for many years and it only seems right they should close the curtain on their illustrious partnership here at the Del Mar National Horse Show.  The tireless efforts of our Division Manager, Regina Antonioli and her longstanding relationship with Yamazaki and Peters made this all happen.”

The Del Mar National Horse Show Dressage Week is April 25 through April 28 and includes qualifying competitions for the USEF National Grand Prix and Intermediaire Championships,  Adequan FEI North American Junior and Young Riders’ Championships, USEF National Pony Rider Championships, Massey Ferguson/USEF National Junior and Young Rider Championships, USEF Brentina Cup Championships and Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships, USEF National Developing Horse Prix St. Georges Championships, and the USEF National Developing Grand Prix Championships.
