CARSON CITY, NV-August 2012  The third annual Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby will occur September 1-3 in Carson City, Nevada as a part of the USHJA International Hunter Derby Series.  The weekend affair will include a “Select Hunter Horse Sale,” $2,500 National Hunter Derby, and the celebrated $25,000 Franktown Meadows International Hunter Derby. Continuing with tradition, the formal derby will work in collaboration with the Water and Rails, Inc. in supporting ALS of Nevada which serves persons and their families living with ALS or commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

The 2012 Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby will once again bring forward the finest hunters in front of judges Shane George, Hap Hansen, Jack Towell, and Scott Williamson. The uniqueness of this location and the quality that has been showcased each year has attracted some of the finest riders including John French, Jessie Lang, and Jenny Karazissis.  Course designer and show manager Phil DeVita is excited to return and develop a great course and hunter derby for this already supreme affair, “When I arrived at Franktown Meadows Equestrian Facility I was more than impressed.  To have a spectacular hunter event in this big grass field underneath the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range was a momentous occasion.” By: Lindsay Y. The Franktown Meadows Equestrian Facility is located just minutes from beautiful Lake Tahoe.  With such a unique location, the derby has become more than just an event but a destination vacation for equestrians from California, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, and many east coast riders. Phil DeVita commented, “With the inclusion of the three-foot National Hunter Derby more riders and trainers will want to attend this amazing derby and make an entire weekend out of it. There are so many talented equestrians on the west coast that I know would enjoy stepping away from the generic horse show and attending Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby.”
